Année 1929, dans la petite ville d’Odessa. Un jour comme les autres
s’annonce. L’homme à la caméra sillonne la ville avec son appareil à
l’épaule. Il en saisit le rythme, et, à travers lui, celui des vies
qu’il croise.

Film incontournable de l’avant-garde soviétique, sans paroles ni
sous-titres, sans acteurs ni décors, l’homme à la caméra enregistre la
vie “à l’improviste”, pour rester au plus près des faits et “montrer
les gens sans masques”. À travers ce film manifeste, Dziga Vertov
cherchait à faire du cinéma un langage universel qui pourrait parler
aux peuples du monde entier, indépendamment de leur langue et de leur
culture.

Le film sera accompagné au piano par Cyril Huguenin, pianiste qui
explore les frontières entre le classique contemporain, le jazz, le
punk, et qui cherche à expérimenter et à interroger les moyens de
jouer et d'écouter, en essayant de changer les conventions du rituel
traditionnel du concert occidental.

1929, in the small town of Odessa. A day like any other is about to
dawn. The man with the camera criss-crosses the town with his camera
slung over his shoulder. He captures its rhythm and, through it, that
of the lives he comes across.

A key film of the Soviet avant-garde, without words or subtitles,
without actors or sets, the man with the camera records life "on the
spur of the moment", to stay as close as possible to the facts and
"show people without masks". Through this manifesto film, Dziga Vertov
sought to make cinema a universal language that could speak to people
throughout the world, regardless of their language or culture.

The film will be accompanied on piano by Cyril Huguenin, a pianist who
explores the boundaries between contemporary classical, jazz and punk,
and who seeks to experiment and question the ways in which we play and
listen, trying to change the conventions of the traditional Western
concert ritual.
